A Generic Minimum Dominating Forward Node Set Based Service Discovery Protocol for MANETs

چکیده
Service discovery is a crucial feature for the usability of mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs). In this paper, Minimum Dominating Forward Node Set based Service Discovery Protocol (MDFNSSDP) is proposed. MDFNSSDP has the following characteristics: 1)It minimizes the number of coverage demanding nodes in the current node’s 2-hop neighbor set. 2) It minimizes the size of dominating forward node set used to cover all coverage demanding nodes. Forward nodes are selected based on local topology information and history information piggybacked in service request packets. Only these forward nodes are responsible for forwarding service request packets. 3) The coverage of service request packets is guaranteed. 4) Multiple service requests can be fulfilled in just one service discovery session. Simulations show that MDFNSSDP is an effective, efficient, and prompt service discovery protocol for MANETs.

Forward-node-set-based broadcast in clustered mobile ad hoc networks
A taxonomy of broadcast protocols in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) is given where protocols are classified into four groups: global, quasi-global, quasi-local, and local. The taxonomy also divides protocols based on the nature of algorithms: probabilistic and deterministic. The locality of maintenance also plays an important role in evaluating the protocol. An important objective in designing...
متن کاملImproving Route Discovery Using Stable Connected Dominating Set in MANETs
A Connected Dominating Set (CDS) based virtual backbone plays an important role in wireless ad hoc networks for efficient routing and broadcasting. Each node in the network can select some of its 1-hop neighbors as Multi Point Relay (MPR) to cover all its 2-hop neighbors. A MPR based CDS is a promising approach for broadcasting. A node in the CDS consumes more energy and the energy depletes qui...

Various simulators (e.g., ns-2 and GloMoSim) are available to implement and study the behavior of the routing protocols for mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). But, students and investigators who are new to this area often get perplexed in the complexity of these simulators and lose the focus in designing and analyzing the characteristics of the network and the protocol. Most of the time would be ...
متن کاملFNMGSDP: An Optimized Group-Based Service Discovery Protocol for MANETs
The ability to discover services offered in MANETs (Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks) is a major prerequisite for effective usability of MANETs. GSD (Group-based Service Discovery) protocol is a typical service discovery protocol for MANETs. However, its packet overhead is high due to its much redundant packet transmissions. Some previous works improve GSD at the expense of slightly larger cache size and...
متن کاملCNPGSDP: An efficient group-based service discovery protocol for MANETs
The ability to discover services is the major prerequisite for effective usability of MANETs. Group-based Service Discovery (GSD) protocol is a typical service discovery protocol for MANETs. However, because of large redundant packet transmissions, its packet overhead is high. In this paper, in light of GSD, we propose a new service discovery protocol for Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks (MANETs): Candid...
